Ho Ho Houseguests

Holy Christmas Lights Batman, get these holly jolly houseguests out of my house!!!  I just want things to be back to normal!!!!

Today is Wednesday, 12/28.  It is also my 3 year wedding anniversary.  In the past 11 days, I have had visitors 8 guests in our home.  We are gearing up for 3 more days of guests, and then I pray that it is over.  Don't get me wrong, I love our family and friends, but it is quite difficult to be the hostess with the mostest for that many days and different guests together.

From my previous posts, I'm sure you can gather that I am not the most spirited person when it comes to the holidays, but this has really pushed me to the limit.  I think the hardest part was doing all of this while my dear husband was working 80 hours a week.

But enough of the whine fest...I can handle a few more days.  I am ready to take down the tree, lights, stockings, etc.

The new year is coming soon and I am actually going to make a few resolutions this year.  They are private resolutions, but I am making them none the less.

Good luck to you and your holiday decompression and I hope you have a wonderful new year!!

It's so cliche...

I know this is a total cliche, but I can't believe its almost Christmas!!!!  I am done with my shopping, but I always feel that I am not giving enough or not giving just the right gift.  But now it is too late, almost, so I'll just move forward with what I've bought so far and hope that the recipients are happy with the thought.

Harper and I are hanging in tonight, as we have had a busy week with two special house guests.  Earlier this week, my best friend from childhood, Katherine, flew up from Atlanta to visit with us.  We had a great time showing her around the Tidewater area and getting her some new clothes!!  We shopped 'til we dropped.  She went home looking like a new woman...and she needed it (no offense to her of course).

My mother-in-law also came to spend a couple of days with us before Christmas.  We went out to the Melting Pot for her impending retirement at the end of this year and ran some errands.  It is always much easier to shop and run around town with a helper!

Necia was very generous this year and we had a great Christmas this year.  Harper got a homemade "monster".  This thing must be 3.5 feet long.  Necia is such a talented seamstress.

This thing is so adorable, and Harper has already give him some love by snotting all over his pretty purple fur.

I got my very first sewing machine and some valuable lessons from the master herself.  I hope to make a baby blanket for my first project.  Below is the proper way for it to be threaded, just like an N for Necia ;)
Its an Elna, which is much nicer than the Singer that I was using before.

Here are some shots of my Martha Stewart-esque decorating style.

Here are the designer stockings, all hung with care.

The holiday bakers rack, very festive I know.

Try not to be too jealous that this is not your Christmas tree.  We tried very hard to get it to tilt to the right just so.

You can't go wrong with Rudolph and Clarice.  I found these today at Walgreen's for $7.00 a piece!

Thanks for visiting my humble blog and I hope that you have a Happy Merry Chrismihaunukwanzika!!!

Look what I got in the mail today!!

The angels are singing from above...my new FRYE boots came today!!!

I love shoes, and boots, and anything that can be worn on my feet, so I am super excited that my new shoes from Zappos.com came today!!

This is my favorite box and my husband's least favorite!

Halleluiah!!

I can smell the new leather!

AHHHHH!  The beauties.  They feel great on my feet too.
I had to go up a half a size, but zappos.com does free returns and even shipped me my new pair before I mailed back the pair that was too small.  They are so great.  I wish that I could work for them from home!

Unfortunately, I wrapped them up and put them under the tree for myself.  I don't know what Santa is bringing this year, but at least I'll be getting these!

Harper Pearl Update

Hi Everyone!  I wanted to give all of my nonexistent readers an update on Ms. Harper Pearl.  She turned one a few weeks ago and has been on the run since then.  She is still not walking, but she has mastered crawling, pulling up, cruising, making a mess, laughing, giggling, and finding every electrical cord to pull on and try to play with.

She is such a joy though.  We are spending much of our days eating.  She is starting to have more of an appetite and likes to feed herself.  She is completely off of baby food and now likes applesauce, turkey, sausage, pasta, peaches, apples, broccoli, beef, ham, bacon, eggs, fries, bread, and most of the other things that I put down in front of her.  She doesn't care too much for berries, but that is the only thing that she has truly rejected thus far.  Much to my chagrin, she is still on the bottle, and I am still holding it!!  I guess that will change soon enough.

She continues to sleep through the night from 8:30p - 9:00a.  I can't complain about that at all.

Jingle, jingle, jingle...

Oh, it's Christmas time.  Some of me is happy and some of me is indifferent.  Another part is sad.

I really am excited to give (and get) gifts.  My love language is giving, meaning that I show my love via gifts and feel love by the receiving of gifts.  My husband does not always like this about me.  I have expensive taste ;-)  I do like to give to others though.  I am not sure that I always pick the best gifts, but I do always have the best of intentions.

I am indifferent in that I cannot seem to "catch" the holiday spirit as others do.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and looking at Christmas lights as much as the next gal, but the whole "magical" season eludes me.  Celebrating the birth of Christ is important to me in my faith, but I am more Grinch that I want to admit.  Putting the tree up is a chore and taking it down is even worse.  I am too lazy to put lights up outside.  Is there something wrong with me that I lack the holiday spirit?  I doubt it.  The royal Grinchness herself, my mother, raised me to loathe the holiday season.  Not really, but it was a hectic time as she works at the post office and their busiest time is the holiday season.  I never got that magical feeling as a child either.  I think it must be inbred.  I come from a long line of hard core grinches.

I can't blame them though, there is no part of me that secretly aches to decorate the whole house in pine and lights.

This will be my first Christmas away from my momma, which makes me very sad.  Since Tommy has to work on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after, and Harper and I will be hanging tough and celebrating the holidays by ourselves mostly.  A friend or two has offered to include us in their celebrations, but it just won't be the same.

So, if you are able to spend the holidays with your family, however horrible it may seem, try to enjoy your family time, as many of us do not get to spend the holidays with our entire family.

Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas y'all!!

Holiday Party Recap

Much to my dismay, the party was pretty boring.  The venue at Nauticus was nice and the open bar were nice, but that was about it.  The DJ was awful and there weren't many people on the dance floor.  In order for Tommy to dance, it has to be packed.  We were out of there by 9:45.

Oh well, maybe the next party will be better...

My New Fingernails!

I am pretty obsessed with my nails.  For the last four or five years, I've had acrylic nails and I've loved every minute of it.  Well, the only part that I didn't love was the cost.  Usually I spent about $50 a month on getting my nails done at the salon.  I'm a nail biter and don't have the strongest natural nail, so having fake nails was a great way for me to have long, strong, and pretty nails.
As you can imagine, I was super excited a few months ago when I was watching "Bobbie's Buzz" on KLG and Hoda and she did her segment on this product.

I'm not sure what the exact company name is?  Custom Nail Solutions?  Simply Perfect Nails?  Sevea?  I think that the company is new and is still working out some kinks.  However, they sent me my "Simply Perfect Nails" and so far I am pretty happy with them.  It was a process getting them, but worth the time, effort, and cost.

You can check out their website at: http://www.customnailsolutions.com/

Here are some pictures of my newly painted nails:

I'll be sure to include a picture of what they look like on my hand too.  I used 2 coats of Essie Merino Cool, 1 coat of Essie A Cut Above, and 1 coat of Gelous top coat.

Have a good day!

My first Navy Holiday Ball

Hello there, this past week I've been gearing up for the intern holiday ball coming up tomorrow night.  I have purchased a new dress from White House Black Market that really flatters my post baby body.  After trying on twenty from Nordstrom, I thought it was a lost cause.  But alas, the flapper dress saved me.
Said dress is a black "flapper" dress that hits just above the knee with a tank style top.  I'll be sure to post some pictures from the event so that you can see just how fabulous we look.  I forgot to mention that this party is also a masquerade ball, so I am off to get us some masks this afternoon.  Even though I know this is a crazy idea, I just can't help but think of those scenes from Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut."  Not a bad film, but very strange.

Farewell for now, have a good weekend!

Here are some updated pics from the party!

Yes, I know that it is blurry, but I'm wearing a zebra mask and Tom is a jester
Here we are on the way out without the masks!
